About the role

This role is ideal for Nurses looking to move into a more structured working environment, while still using their clinical experience in a different way.

We are recruiting registered Nurses (RGN, RMN and RNLD) to join a Functional Assessor team delivering Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Work Capability Assessment (WCA) services in Swindon.

You’ll work in a non-clinical setting, focusing on assessment, communication and report writing, with a consistent Monday to Friday working pattern.

  • Salary: £40,000–£42,000 plus approval and performance-related bonus
  • Location: Swindon assessment centre
  • Working pattern: Monday to Friday, office hours only
  • Hybrid working: A combination of working from home and office-based assessments
  • No nights, weekends or shift work
  • Full-time and part-time opportunities available
  • Right to work in the UK required (no sponsorship available)

Working pattern and training

  • Full-time and part-time roles available
  • Part-time options typically 3 to 4 days per week

All roles require completion of a full-time training programme. This is a minimum of 9 weeks, but may be longer depending on individual progress or any periods of absence.


The role

You will complete structured functional assessments within PIP or WCA services, focusing on how health conditions affect daily living or work capability.

Assessments are completed via:

  • Telephone
  • Video consultation
  • Face-to-face (non-clinical setting)

All appointments are pre-booked with time allocated per assessment.

Typical workload:

  • PIP: around 3 assessments per day
  • WCA: around 4 to 6 assessments per day

What you will do

  • Carry out structured functional assessments using clinical judgement
  • Review medical evidence and supporting documentation
  • Produce clear, objective, evidence-based written reports
  • Communicate professionally and empathetically throughout

What you will not do

  • Provide hands-on clinical care
  • Prescribe or deliver treatment
  • Make diagnoses
  • Make benefit entitlement decisions
  • Work nights, weekends or shifts

Requirements

  • Nurse (RGN / RMN / RNLD) – current NMC registration required
  • Minimum 12 months post-registration clinical experience
  • Good communication and report writing skills
  • Comfortable using IT systems

Salary and benefits

  • £40,000–£42,000 salary (pro rata for part-time)
