Lead the Future of Specialist Palliative Care
A rare and rewarding opportunity has arisen for an experienced Medical Director, Consultant in Palliative Medicine, or senior Specialty Doctor ready to step into a strategic leadership role.
This is a unique opportunity to shape the future direction of a respected specialist palliative care provider delivering services across the North West. The organisation is seeking an inspirational medical leader who can provide strategic direction, lead service development, and support clinical excellence while managing an established team of doctors.
Having operated safely and successfully without a permanent Medical Director for several years, the organisation is now looking for someone who can bring vision, leadership, and long-term commitment to support the next phase of growth and development.
The Role
As Medical Director, you will be a key member of the Senior Management Team, providing clinical leadership across the organisation and acting as the senior medical advisor to the Executive Team and Board.
This position combines clinical expertise with strategic influence and people leadership, making it ideal for someone who wants to play an active role in service transformation and organisational development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic medical leadership across hospice and community services
- Leading and managing an established medical team
- Supporting the development of a positive, collaborative culture
- Driving service redesign and innovation in response to changing healthcare needs
- Helping shape future service delivery in line with NHS priorities and long-term healthcare strategy
- Maintaining the highest standards of clinical governance, patient safety and quality
- Acting as a senior advisor to the Executive Team and Board
- Building strong relationships with NHS partners and external stakeholders
- Leading multidisciplinary working and organisational improvement initiatives
- Supporting education, training and workforce development
- Participating in the medical on-call rota
About You
We are keen to hear from Consultants in Palliative Medicine, experienced Specialty Doctors and senior clinicians looking to make a significant impact beyond clinical practice alone.
You will bring:
- Full GMC registration with licence to practise
- Significant experience within palliative medicine
- A minimum of six years’ relevant experience at consultant level or five years as a Specialty Doctor
- Proven people management and leadership experience
- Experience managing established teams and leading through change
- Strong understanding of clinical governance and patient safety
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- The ability to influence strategic decisions and shape future services
- A genuine commitment to high-quality palliative and end-of-life care
