This role is ideal for Nurses looking to move away from shift work into a more structured environment.

Nurse Functional Assessor role based in Hitchin. Salary £47,000 plus bonus. Monday to Friday, office hours with a hybrid working model combining home‑based working and attendance at a local assessment centre.

We are recruiting registered Nurses (RGN, RMN and RNLD) to work as Functional Assessors, delivering Personal Independence Payment (PIP) services.

This role provides an alternative to hands‑on clinical work within a structured environment. The focus is on carrying out assessments and producing written reports, rather than providing treatment or direct patient care.


Key details

  • Salary: £47,000 – £50,000 per year plus bonus
  • Location: Hitchin assessment centre
  • Working pattern: Monday to Friday, office hours only
  • Hybrid working: A mixture of working from home and in the local office
  • No shift work, nights or weekends
  • Full‑time and part‑time roles available
  • Right to work in the UK required (sponsorship not available)

Training

All roles require completion of a full‑time training programme. This is a minimum of 9 weeks but may be longer depending on individual progress or any periods of absence.


The role

You will complete structured Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessments, focusing on how health conditions affect daily living activities.

Assessments are completed using:

  • Telephone
  • Video consultation
  • Face‑to‑face appointments (non‑clinical setting)

All appointments are pre‑booked and structured.


Responsibilities

  • Carry out structured assessments using clinical judgement
  • Review medical evidence and supporting documentation
  • Produce clear, objective written reports
  • Communicate professionally and sensitively with individuals being assessed

This role does not involve

  • Providing hands‑on care
  • Diagnosing conditions
  • Prescribing or delivering treatment
  • Making decisions on benefit entitlement
  • Working nights, weekends or shifts

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RGN, RMN or RNLD) with a valid NMC registration
  • Minimum 12 months post‑registration clinical experience
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable using IT systems
